Vieną kartą arė žmogus pagiry, o meška gulėjo lauže. Ta meška šaukia:
— Žmogau žmogau, aš tavo jautelius piausiu!
O lapė, atbėgusi pas žmogų, sako:
— Ką tu man duosi, tai aš tavo jautelius išgelbėsiu?
Atsakė žmogus:
— Aš tau atnešiu vištų maišą.
Tai lapė ir nubėgo į girią. Atbėgus kitu kraštu, šaukia:
— Žmogau žmogau, ar nematei čion meškų, stirnų, vilkų, šernų? Ponas gaudynes daro.
— Nemačiau.
O lapė:
— O kas ten guli lauže?
Žmogus sako:
— Tai šiekšta guli.
O lapė:
— Kad būtų šiekšta, tai būtų šakos apgenėtos.
Ėmė ir nubėgo vėl į girią. Tada meška sako:
— Žmogau, nukapok man kojas.
Nukapojo.
Kitą kartą vėl lapė, išbėgus iš girios, sako:
— Žmogau žmogau, ar nematei meškų, stirnų, vilkų? Ponas gaudynes daro.
Žmogus atsakė:
— Nemačiau.
O lapė sako:
— O kas ten lauže guli?
Atsakė žmogus:
— Tai medis guli.
O lapė:
— Kad būtų medis, tai būtų į galvą kirvis įkirstas.
Ir vėl lapė nubėgo į girią. Meška šaukia:
— Žmogau, įkirsk man kirvį į galvą.
(Kaip kirto, tai ir užmušė žmogus mešką.)
Atbėgo lapė pas tą žmogų ir sako:
— Matai, kaip aš tavo jautelius išgelbėjau nuo mirties. Tai tu rytoj atnešk man vištas, ką žadėjai.
Ant rytojaus žmogus susidėjo du šuniukus į maišą ir atnešė ten. O lapė atėjo ir sako:
— Paleisk, žmogau, vištas, aš pasigausiu.
O žmogus sako:
— Eik čia artyn.
Lapė:
— Tik leisk, jau aš griebsiu.
Žmogus iškratė iš maišo šuniukus. Kaip ėmė tie šuniukai vyt lapę! Lapė bėgo tiesiog į skylę. Atbėgus sako:
— Akelės akelės, ką jūs galvojot?
— Žiūrėjom skubinom, kad tik tiesiog į skylę taikyt.
Dabar klausia:
— O jūs, kojelės, ką jūs man galvojot?
— O bėgom, o skubinom, kad tik greičiau į skylę atbėgt.
Vėl klausia:
— O tu, uodegėle, ką tu galvojai?
Uodegėlė atsakė:
— Makalavau į visus šonus, kad tik rudis margis greičiau pagautų.
Tada, iškišus uodegą lauk, lapė sako:
— Cimcili bimbili, šekit uodegą!
Ir sugavo lapę šuniukai, ir sudraskė.
